Welcome to Llanegryn Community Council

This is a lovely area in the south west of Meirionnydd, with a wealth of history and heritage. There is a lively society here, with a buzz of social and cultural life. The population within the boundaries of the Community Council is scattered. The largest number live in the village of Llanegryn, where there is a record of a population around the Church since the 13th Century. Today there is a Chapel, School and Village Hall which serves a wider area. To the east of the village is Ystad y Peniarth, which was once known for collecting and preserving manuscripts. They are now in the National Library, and are considered to be of huge importance. The residents work in agriculture, tourism and other services, and many travel out of the area for a variety of jobs. Many also work from home. Llanegryn Community Council is part of the Snowdonia National Park with a variety of habitats. The Council's boundary encompasses the beautiful area of the Dysynni valley, where much of the land has been drained and improved in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and where a unique drainage system exists to this day.
